Insects
I love all the variations of insects out there, especially beetles, moths and honey bees. Beetles are often overlooked but they are so full of ingenuity, strength and community. Beetles communicate with each other through chemicals and can often be found working together and carrying double their own body weight. Beetles are such powerful symbols of perseverance and community. Through these embroideries I get to know all the cool species out there more closely, like the circular cyrtonota beetles, who look like mini mountains from the side. Moths have a similar symbolism to butterflies with the capacity to go through huge shifts and transformation in their lifetimes, while also having the folklore of being linked to the night and being hidden due to their tendency to mimic their environment with their patterns and through using the moon to navigate. Moths are often overlooked but there are so many beautiful variations out there and when looking up close their patterns are so intricate and beautiful.
